Tasks and Assignments

A Task preserves accepted intent. It answers: what outcome did the organization agree to carry? That identity survives reassignment, recovery and changes in execution strategy.

An Assignment binds a Task’s current bounded outcome to an accountable Agent. AgentOS enforces one active accountable owner rather than allowing several sessions to believe they all own the same work.

Example

A provider issue reports that checkout accepts an expired address. Reconciliation creates or links one Task for the accepted intent. First Mate creates the first Assignment for a diagnosis. After the causal report, a ship Assignment may be handed to a different Crewmate while the Task continues to represent the same human outcome.

Task: checkout must reject expired addresses
  Assignment 1: reproduce and establish cause → complete
  Assignment 2: implement and deliver fix → active owner: checkout-worker

The history is not overwritten when an owner changes. Completion requires the selected durable delivery artifact and evidence; setting a status without that outcome is not delivery.
