The crew

A concrete accountability hierarchy for Captain, First Mate, Second Mates and Crewmates.

The crew language names responsibility; it is not character roleplay.

  • Captain is the human role that owns purpose, priority, risk and consequential decisions. A person or team can hold it.
  • First Mate is the regular company interface and the only persistent Mate that forms Second-Mate domains.
  • Second Mate is a persistent leader for one explicit charter. It supervises bounded Crewmates and never broadens its own domain.
  • Crewmate is a bounded worker for one ship or scout outcome.

Every Agent has at most one direct supervision edge for the work in question. Reports move upward; delegation moves downward. Humans speak to the company surface rather than learning which internal Second Mate to tag.

Why hierarchy instead of a swarm

If ten sessions can all notice a checkout defect, throughput may be high while accountability is zero. A crew establishes who accepted the intent, who owns the active Assignment, who supervises that owner and where a consequential choice returns.

Direct Captain steering in an attached Agent terminal is authoritative. The receiving Mate must reconcile that intervention into durable Fleet state so the hierarchy does not continue from stale assumptions.
