Human work surfaces
Bring work to the people whose context, expertise or authority matters without creating another organizational authority.
AgentOS should not require every person to supervise a wall of chats or accept one permanent dashboard. A focused internal tool, tracker, local assistant or adaptive workplace can all be human interfaces to the same company. The surface may change for the work and the person; accountable ownership and authority must remain legible underneath it.
Bring work to the relevant people
One accountable owner does not imply one person has all the wisdom. A product decision may need customer context, engineering constraints, design judgment and an exact approval. A code review may need a security specialist without transferring ownership of the delivery. An incident may need several observations but only one authorized recovery decision.
A useful responsibility path distinguishes three roles:
- contributors provide context, critique, options or recommendations;
- the accountable owner carries the bounded outcome and closes the loop;
- the authorized human role approves a consequence when policy requires it.
Those roles may overlap, but the interface must not assume that visibility grants authority. The released AgentOS decision path records exact consequential choices through the Captain role, which may be held by a person or team. A company configures responsibility paths so its workplace can bring each question to the people with relevant context, expertise or authority without confusing their contribution with ownership or approval.
One front door, many forms of work
The same workplace may present a UI direction for visual review, a backend architecture as a data flow, a code change as a diff, an incident as a timeline or a launch decision as evidence and tradeoffs. It can prepare the relevant context before someone arrives and let a local Agent explain, inspect or revise the work within granted capabilities.
bounded work and current evidence
→ configured responsibility path
→ views shaped for the relevant people
→ context, critique or exact approval
→ approved AgentOS intake
→ First Mate reconciliation
→ accountable Fleet work or recorded decisionFirst Mate remains responsible for reconciling returned intent with the truthful company view. An external event may preserve a contribution and wake reconciliation, but it does not accept work or grant authority by itself.
What stays replaceable
- layout, navigation and the form used to inspect work or explain a decision;
- which relevant context is assembled for the current person;
- local drafts, interface preferences and temporary presentation state;
- the local Agent, model and approved interface capabilities.
What stays durable
- the tracker or provider selected for human planning;
- PostgreSQL Tasks, Assignments, Inbox decisions and authority;
- Kubernetes and Herdr evidence about live work;
- Git commits and provider review artifacts for delivered source.
The surface may cache enough local state to stay responsive. It must not mirror those authorities into a competing company model. Read Native authorities, Organizational attention and Authority and decisions for the underlying boundaries.
Flect as an adaptable workplace
Flect is an open-source, agent-native interface shell. Its Edit mode lets someone shape a local interface, keep or reject the result, then use the product with a separate App Agent in Run mode. Installing Flect provides an adaptable workplace today, with or without AgentOS.
Why the name Flect?
Flect is pronounced flekt. Merriam-Webster traces the obsolete English verb flect to Latin flectere, “to bend”; the Latin verb also means to bend, curve or turn. Flect makes that root a product principle: software should bend around the person, task and decision instead of forcing every person and kind of work through one fixed interface.
The technology makes that practical. Flect can reshape its running UI from inside itself, validate the result before someone keeps it, recover through reject, rollback or safe mode, and separate the Shaper that edits the interface from the App Agent that uses the resulting product. In short: Flect helps you turn intent into the interface the moment needs—without losing a protected way back. See what works today for the current implemented surface.
Flect is the human interface for AgentOS. It assembles work, events, decisions and organizational context; brings the relevant people into the loop; lets its built-in Agent help inspect or revise the draft; and returns bounded approved intent to First Mate. AgentOS keeps the resulting work, ownership, decisions and evidence durable beneath the adaptive view.
An existing product can appear inside the workplace through a bounded embedded browser or iframe. Product and API adapters bring deeper capabilities into the same surface. People can install Flect today and shape the workplace around their own company.
